stupid library rants

Just a dumb rant for now. We have 3 terminals at our reference desk. We check out laptops, which are to the left of the far left terminal. Often times, the two reference staff will be at the middle and right terminal, so what does the customer do? He approaches, stands and waits, slams down his library card and ID at the empty far left terminal, and huffs and puffs when he doesn't get served immediately. The Pavlov's dog is in full effect too when a customer comes to a terminal that is not next to the laptops. We have to walk over to the laptops, bend down and get it (the customer follows, expecting that we will hand the laptop to him), and then walk back to a terminal to check it out to the customer (the customer follows again).

I know, nothing classic. Havent got around to posting MI/IL/IN pictures yet.

Sundays at the library are classic. We open at 12, but the public arrives anywhere from 10-11:30 and waits. It is truly amazing to see the progression toward the library as the countdown to opening continues.

11:30-customers in cars or just arriving from the bus stop right in front of the library.
11:40 customers come out of cars and stand around in the parking lot.
11:45 some customers sit on library benches, 30 feet from the entrance
11:50 customers are all standing or sitting on the library walkway
11:55 customers noses are literally to the entrance door of the library. No one is looking at or conversing with each other.
12:00 stampede up to the second floor for one hour worth of internet
